Skip Gorman has played old time and bluegrass styles of mandolin for 46 years. For two years he has had the distinction of being selected to be among the first mandolin instructors at the International Bluegrass Museum’s Monroe Mandolin Camp in Owenboro KY.
Check out this picture of Skip giving a mandolin workshop with Bill at Berryville (1968?). Oddly enough, another one of my favorite mandolin players, Roland White, stands behind Skip and provides backing guitar!
You’ve probably heard Skip’s music and aren’t even aware of it. Ken Burns, has used Skip’s mandolin music in his PBS documentries. Skip has recorded for Rounder, Folk Legacy , Columbia and Old West recordings.
In 2006, The NH State Council on the Arts funded an Arts Apprenticeship Grant for me to study bluegrass mandolin with Skip Gorman. The project spanned over two years and I’m happy to share some of the recordings I made of Skip during that period.
