You know, we’ve been playing at venues throughout the Lowell Folk Festival for the past five years. The best times for us have always been the busking and back alley jamming with other musicians (such as the folks from Thunderpants Johnson Hillbilly Orchestra, Tombstone Blues and Hot Day at the Zoo). This year we decided to NOT to play a formal gig at any specific venue, but instead to busk around town during the festival.

If you are at the festival, we will likely be performing in the vicinity of Middle Street and Palmer on Saturday. Please stop by and say “Hello!”
We’ll have copies of our new CD on hand too, and would love to sell you one

I just read an interesting article/post on the Berklee Today blog about bluegrass/old time music’s new found credibilty and the school’s programs impact on the national and local music scene.

Some quotes I found to be interesting:

“That notion of ’silly hillbilly music’ still lingers, but people stop arguing once they see the chops involved in playing it,” said Mike Ihde, “It’s not a bunch of no-tooth guys hanging out on the porch… It’s not considered backwoods music anymore.”

and regarding the city of Boston…

“Boston has become the epicenter of an amazing scene,” Said Prof. Matt Glaser “Some of the best young mandolin and banjo players in the world are now studying at Berklee.”

Give the article a read!
